Mumbai airport's to be temporarily shut from Saturday

The main runway of the Chhattrapati Shivaji International Airport here will be closed for a few hours every day from Saturday to carry out much needed post-monsoon maintenance.

Runway 09/27 will be shut between 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. till Oct 25 and during this time, the secondary RWY14/32 will be in operation, a statement from Mumbai International Airport Ltd. said, adding that the maintenance is necessary to fully restore RWY 09/27.

'During the monsoon, only limited time for maintenance work is possible due to weather conditions. With the current clear weather, all maintenance can be brought back on schedule,' the release added.

In addition to the maintenance work, MAIL will carry out geo-technical surveys to finalize plans for the total resurfacing of RWY 09/27 in 2009-2010, the release said.
