16 Maoist rebels arrested in Jharkhand

The police arrested 16 Maoist rebels of the Peoples' Morcha in Jharkhand Wednesday evening, officials said.

On an intelligence input, the police raided the jungle area under Chauparan police station in Hazaribagh district, some 120 km from Ranchi.

The arrested rebels include two commanders, Chintamani Yadav and Mayan Singh.

Weapons were also recovered from the rebels.

Peoples' Morcha is a breakaway group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of Jharkhand.
