Fire breaks out at government office in Delhi

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 10:01 PM IST

A fire broke out Monday evening on the sixth floor of the Paryavaran Bhavan in CGO complex in south Delhi. There was no report of any casualty, officials said.

According to fire officials, the fire was reported at 6.40 p.m. on the fifth floor of the building. The floor and the one above house the Serious Fraud Investigating Office and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

'We received the information of a fire on the fifth floor but our officials found that it was actually on the sixth floor,' said a fire official.

The official said 14 fire engines were pressed into service because of panic calls from people. He, however, said that the fire was a minor one.

The fire was doused around 8.10 p.m, he said. The official refused to provide any reason for the blaze.

'The matter is being investigated by the police,' he said.
