Six school teachers drowned in Arabian Sea

From correspondents in India, 08:32 PM IST

Six teachers of a local school in Gujarat's Rajkot town drowned Friday when they ventured into the Arabian Sea near the resort town of Chorwad in the neighbouring Junagadh district, police said.

The teachers, part of a trip organised by the Rajkot-based Genius School, were accompanying 21 students. They drowned after entering the sea at a place known to have very rough currents throughout the year, and wanted to take pictures.

Besides the teachers, 11 students were also caught in the current but were rescued. They were admitted to a local hospital in Chorwad for emergency treatment.

The bodies of all the six teachers were fished out of the sea by a rescue team after the students raised an alarm, police said, adding the deaths were being investigated.
