Controversial Mumbai Police officer Pradeep Sharma, who was dismissed last year for allegedly having links with the underworld, was Thursday re-instated by the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT), an official said.

In August last year, Sharma, a senior inspector of police known for eliminating gangsters in 'encounters' (gun battles), was summarily dismissed by invoking section 311 of the constitution. He had challenged his dismissal before the MAT.
