Six trains cancelled due to Maoist strike in Jharkhand

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 07:02 PM IST

At least six trains were cancelled in Jharkhand Monday after the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) called a strike to protest against the killings of their leader Sudhakar Reddy and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran.

The cancelled trains include Garib Rath that plies from Ranchi to New Delhi. The railway authorities also diverted the route of four trains.

Cancellation of trains and the Maoist strike affected life in Jharkhand as passengers were stranded at railway stations and bus stand.

The train services were affected on the CIC (Central Industrial Chord) section of Jharkhand. Buses also did not ply in rural areas of the state. The national highways wore a deserted look.
