Woman rafter drowns in Darjeeling

A woman rafter was drowned Monday when her boat capsized on river Teesta in West Bengal's Darjeeling district, police said.

Rashila Thakkar, 37, a resident of Mumbai, was in the boat with 11 others when the accident occurred near Chitrey under Kalimpong police station.

Locals rescued all the 12 rafters, but Thakkar was declared brought dead at the Kalimpong Rambi hospital. The others were released after first aid, said Kalimpong additional superintendent of police K.B. Dorji.

The victim's husband was also a member of the rafting team.
