Bengali TV channel cameraperson beaten by CPI-M cadres

A cameraperson of a Bengali television channel was beaten up severely allegedly by a group of ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists for capturing footage of a party rally in East Midnapore district of West Bengal, police said.

Diganta Manna, 24, was admitted in the ICU (intensive care unit) of a private hospital.

Manna works with vernacular private television channel, Star Ananda, in East Midnapore as a photojournalist.

'The cameraperson was injured in an attack by a group of political party activists. He sustained chest and head injuries. He was later shifted to Kolkata for better medical treatment,' a senior police officer said.

According to police sources, the car carrying the injured cameraperson was also escorted by a district police van till Kolaghat area.
