Militant killed in Kashmir gun battle

A separatist guerrilla was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said Friday.

'An unidentified militant was killed at Wedder Bala forest in Kupwara in an encounter with police and troops of 21 Rashtriya Rifles,' a senior police officer said.

'One AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 40 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the killed militant,' the official said.

Meanwhile, two men working as porters for the army drowned in Kishan Ganga river in Gurez area of Bandipora district Friday.

'Two porters fell into the river while working on a bridge construction project. The body of one porter has been recovered while search for the second body is still on,' a police official said.
