Curfew was imposed in most parts of Ludhiana late Saturday evening following the continuous violence since Thursday in this industrial city of Punjab, officials said.

Curfew was imposed in nine areas of Ludhiana - divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7, Simlapuri, Focal point and Sahnewal - following the widespread violence Friday and Saturday.

Earlier, curfew was imposed in five police station areas of the town, 110 k, from Chandigarh, Friday and was relaxed in three of these divisions Saturday from 8.30 a.m. till 5 p.m.

Saturday's clash between police and Sikh protesters left one person dead and over 15 injured.
