US forces killed six suspected insurgents and captured 10 others in operations targeting terrorist networks in central and northern Iraq Saturday, the US military said.

In an operation in northeast Samarra City, 120 km north of Baghdad, the US troops killed two armed men, the military said in a statement.

During the operation, four other armed men were killed while trying to flee, the statement said.

Later, the troops found that three of the dead were wearing suicide vests.

The troops also found a weapons cache, bomb-making materials and a media cache in the two buildings, which were then destroyed by US aircraft, according to the statement.

During the operations, the soldiers detained three more suspects from two other locations in northeast Samarra, the statement said.

Six more suspects were arrested from Baghdad and one from Kirkuk City in the northern Iraq.
