UAE studies Australian model for animal welfare law

From correspondents in Emirates, United Arab Emirates, 04:02 PM IST

A group of Australian experts are here to train officials of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dealing with animal welfare issues in the country, WAM news agency reported Friday.

UAE's Ministry of Environment and Water hosted a workshop Thursday for better enforcement of animal welfare laws in the country.

The group from Australia's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forest has been interacting with animal experts, technicians and law enforcement officials here to apprise them of Australian veterinarian schemes and animal care.

The experts gave presentations on how the UAE can draw lessons from the Australian model, when it enforces its own legislation.

The Ministerial Committee for Legislations has finalised a 17-article draft law on the subject aiming at preventing cruelty to animals and ensuring their proper care.
