India, Arab League discuss Middle East situation

From correspondents in Emirates, United Arab Emirates, 07:00 PM IST

India and the Arab League Thursday discussed issues relating to the Middle East in a meeting External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee held with Arab League chief Amr Moussa.

'The minister and the Arab League chief discussed the situation in the Middle East and issues concerning the Arab region during their meeting this morning (Thursday),' an official in the Indian embassy in Cairo told IANS without giving more details.

Mukherjee left Cairo for New Delhi Thursday afternoon after a three-day official visit to Egypt.

During the course of the visit, he met Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in the Egyptian coastal resort of Sharm Al Sheikh and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abul Gheit.

This was the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to Egypt in seven years.
