A young inventor here has developed a solar-powered car - the first in the Middle East - that can run at 50 km an hour, WAM news agency reported Saturday.

Saqar Bin Saif exhibited the first model of his car earlier at the Dubai Motor Show, evoking curiosity and interest of many global car manufacturers.

The inventor, who has a degree in business administration, said he had been busy upgrading the car and improving the solar panels for producing more power.

"We have plenty of sunshine here in this part of the world, so why can't we make the best use of it?' asks Saqar, who developed his car at a small laboratory he set up close to his house.

Saqar has received offers from US and Germany for partnership with car manufacturers for marketing his invention on a commercial level.
