From correspondents in Emirates, United Arab Emirates, 09:32 PM IST

A new annual award series has been launched in Dubai to honour the city's unsung heroes.

The Time Out Dubai magazine announced Thursday the launch of the Inspire Dubai awards to recognise those citizens who go beyond their call of duty to provide hope and inspiration to others.

'We believe that Inspire Dubai will not only recognize our 'unsung heroes', but also strengthen the sense of community among expatriates and nationals alike,' Zoe Cooper-Clark, publisher of Time Out Dubai.

'The awards will highlight the achievements of people who care about their community and are willing to walk that extra mile to help and support one another, making Dubai a better place for everyone,' he added.

The following categories have been instituted for the award series: life saver of the year, guardian of the year, charity worker of the year, educator of the year, inspiring personality of the year, child of bravery, young achiever of the year, environmental achiever of the year, lifetime achievement award and a special recognition award.

According to the statement, nominations are not restricted to any specific category and both organisations as well as members of the public can nominate people of their choice.

The award presentation ceremony will be held Nov 30.

This west Asian metropolis is home to around 700,000 expatriate Indians.
