Reinstate two sacked Indians: UAE court tells construction firm

From correspondents in Emirates, United Arab Emirates, 04:31 PM IST

The United Arab Emirates' (UAE) apex court has ordered a construction company to reinstate two Indian workers who were reportedly sacked on flimsy grounds.

The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi ordered the company not only to reinstate the workers in their jobs but also to pay their salary arrears of a year and a half from the time of their termination, the Khaleej Times reported.

The workers - a computer technician and a foreman - were reportedly sacked as they had reported late to duty one day.

The workers approached the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance with their complaint in March 2007.

An expert was appointed to look into the case, who then confirmed the services of the workers were terminated arbitrarily.

Neither the company's name nor those of the workers has been revealed.
