At least 28 people were killed and nine others injured Monday when the bus in which they were travelling veered off the road and rammed into a building, a TV report said.

All the passengers onboard the bus were on a pilgrimage to the western Iranian province of Ilam, near the Iraqi border, the report said.

The report however did not mention the exact number of people onboard the bus at the time of the accident. The police are investigating the accident.
