The non-resident Indians (NRIs) from Punjab will now have an exclusive facility for filing their complaints with the Punjab police Sunday launching its specialised NRI police stations here and five other towns in the state.
The NRIs can file their complaints with the state police and will also have the facility of monitoring the status of their complaints online with the launch of these NRI police stations.
The first NRI police station was inaugurated by Akali Dal president and Faridkot Member of Parliament (MP) Sukhbir Badal here Sunday.
The other NRI police stations have been set up in Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Moga and Nawanshahr.
Scores of NRIs, particularly from the districts where these NRI police stations have been set up, have migrated from Punjab over the last eight decades are settled in the US, Canada, Britain, European nations and several other countries in the world.
Badal said the police officials at the NRI stations would deal exclusively with NRI complaints to ensure speedy disposal.
He added that the new NRI police stations had been set up in Punjab following a promise made by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to Punjabi NRIs at a conference of NRIs held in Chandigarh and Jalandhar in January this year.
The Punjab police officials said majority of the complaints by NRIs were regarding property and land disputes.

If operated efficiently and with a proactive spirit instead of trying to find loopholes (commas, colons, missing) in the NRI complaints and redressals effected without fear or favour, these Punjab govt.'s facilities for NRIs.are commendable for emulation by other states, like Karnataka,Tamilnadu,AP,Gujarat,for ex., where lakhs of NRIs.have invested in properties and many of them are being cheated to the hilt by builders, other cheaters like agents and brokers,etc.HOWEVER THE INFORMATION LIKE CONTACT DETAILS OF PUNJAB'S NRI FACILITIES,METHODS AND REPORTS, IS VERY POORLY PROVIDED. IT is a pity.
