The Punjab Police Saturday registered a case against five people for trying to illegally sell a house here owned by a Britain-based non-resident Indian (NRI) woman.

The property, located in the urban estate here, is valued at over Rs.20 million. It is owned by NRI Tejinder Kaur.

The accused, who are involved in property business, tried to sell the house for just Rs. 7.5 million.

All those booked have been arrested by the Jalandhar police. The mastermind in this case, Paramjit Singh, is behind bars in a fake passports case.

The accused prepared a fake sale agreement of the property and tried to sell it in May this year. Another sale deed with another buyer was made this week.

The second buyer got suspicious about the sale and called up the owner in London. He came to know that the owner was not selling the house at all.
