Overseas Jagannath chariot festivals go online

From correspondents in Orissa, India, 11:00 PM IST

The chariot festival of Hindu god Jagannath organised in various parts of the world will now go online with a regional television channel hosting a comprehensive report with visuals on its website, the channel news coordinator said Thursday.

'The special programme titled 'Dariaapari Jagannath' (Overseas Jagannath) has footages from about 20 countries, including Canada and the US, that we collected with the help of Oriyas abroad,' ETV Oriya news coordinator Nilambar Rath told IANS by phone from Hyderabad.

ETV Oriya, owned by the Hyderabad-based Ushodaya Enterprises Ltd, has made a 30-minute capsule on the chariot festival organised across the globe.

'Now we have hosted the programme on our website http://etv.co.in/rathayatra/index.html for a larger audience,' he said.

The ancient Ratha Yatra festival is an annual event celebrated in Puri, a seaside town 56 km from here, that houses the famous 12th century Jagannath temple.

The festival is now organised in many countries across the globe.
