Varsity for Persons of Indian Origin being considered

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 07:00 PM IST

The Ministry Of Overseas Indian Affairs is considering a project report of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education Trust (Mahet) for setting up the first university for Persons of Indian Origin in Bangalore.

Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi had announced Mahet as the developer for the university in May. He had said that the university will be an entirely private venture, but will follow government guidelines on reservations for Indian students.

A press release issued by the ministry Wednesday said that while the project report had been received, the details of the varsity will be worked out after more consultations with the academy.

The university will have the status of a deemed university and will have 50 percent seats earmarked for overseas Indians.
