Intikhab confident of Pakistan's good show in World Twenty20

From correspondents in Punjab, Pakistan, 06:00 PM IST

Pakistan's 15-man squad for the World Twenty20 flew out of here for London Saturday with coach Intikhab Alam confident that the team will lift the trophy next month.

Intikhab told reporters at the airport before his team's departure that the team has had good preparations for the June 5-21 tournament and will try to give its best.

A former Pakistan captain, Intikhab said that all his players were fully fit and are itching to take the field against the world's top teams.

Pakistan reached the final of the inaugural World Twenty20 Championship in South Africa in 2008 but lost to India in a thrilling final.

This time the two teams will meet two days before the start of the tournament - in a warm-up match to be held at The Oval June 3.

Intikhab said that the warm-up game against India will help his team get in top gear ahead of its opening match of the tournament against England June 5.

Team captain Younis Khan said that his players will go all out to win the tournament. 'We lost in the final of the previous event but this time, we are all confident of going all the way,' he said.

Pakistan is placed in Group B of the tournament with hosts England and underdogs Netherlands.

Pakistan squad: Younis Khan (captain), Salman Butt, Ahmed Shahzad, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal (wk), Fawad Alam, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamir, Saeed Ajmal, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Shazaib Hasan.
