Sukhbir Badal, son of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, was Sunday nominated acting president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

The decision to nominate the junior Badal as acting party president was taken at a meeting of the SAD political affairs committee meeting here.

Parkash Singh Badal, SAD president, said that after becoming chief minister he was not able to devote enough time to running the party affairs.

Senior Akali leaders led by Ranjit Singh Brahmpura proposed the name of Sukhbir Badal, sitting MP from Faridkot, as acting president saying that he had done a lot of work for the party in the recently assembly elections and should be nominated for the post.

The resolution was adopted unanimously.
