Munda dumps guards over bulletproof car

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 02:30 PM IST

Former Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda has decided to return his Z-plus security personnel to protest the government move to take back his bullet-proof vehicle.

The government last week decided to withdraw the car designed to jam landmines planted by Maoist guerrillas on roads.

'It seems the government is facing financial crunch by providing security to me. I have decided to return my security as it will help the government financially,' an angry Munda said here.

Reacting to Munda's remark, Chief Minister Madhu Koda said: 'We will look into the matter and take proper steps to provide him (Munda) security.'

The government has decided to take back bulletproof vehicles from former chief ministers Babulal Marandi and Munda and former home minister Sudesh Mahto. All these are said to be on the hit list of Maoists.
