'Das Kapital' now a rarity in Red West Bengal

Karl Marx's 'Das Kapital', which laid the ideological foundation for Communism, has ironically now become a rare book in communist-governed West Bengal.1:32 PM on February 18

It is true to a large extent. But it is difficult to understand the book unless it is accompanied by an introduction or a guide. For example, Sweet Home Publications, Hyderabad, had brought out a three volume introduction to Das Capital, about 200 copies of which were sold in West Bengal between 2000 and 2003. About 300 copies were sold abroad: America, Britain, Italy. this is apart from the sales at different places in India, especially in cities and large towns. The point is that people read any text if it is written in a 'reader-friendly' style. For example, the Telugu introduction to 'Capital' has undergone several reprints since 1986. However, the over all picture is discouraging and the main responsibility lies in the so called 'communist groups/parties of various shades. They never recommended their cadres to read such texts as this. Their focus is only to read their party documents and some works of Mao.
