President to spend weekend at Gulmarg

From correspondents in Jammu and Kashmir, India, 03:01 PM IST

President Pratibha Patil, accompanied by members of her family, Saturday left for the picturesque north Kashmir tourist resort of Gulmarg where the family will spend their weekend.

Patil along with her husband D. Shekhawat, son, daughter and grandchildren, left Srinagar for Gulmarg where elaborate arrangements have been made for them to spend a memorable weekend.

'The president and her family members are likely to enjoy a Gondola cable car ride in Gulmarg,' an official told IANS here.

The family is staying at Gulmarg for the night.

Gulmarg has the world's highest cable car project at 13,400 feet above sea level. Moving through pine forests and snow-clad mountains, the distance covered by the cable car from the base to the last point at Afarwat hill tops is five kilometres.
