Jharkhand BJP to hold protests over price rise July 7

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 02:00 PM IST

The main opposition Bharatiya Jananta Party (BJP) in Jharkhand Monday said it would hold demonstrations across the state July 7 to protest the rising prices of essential commodities.

'We have decided to launch an agitation against price rise. On July 7, our party members will demonstrate in all 212 blocks of the state in front of the Block Development Office,' state BJP president P.N. Singh to IANS.

The decision was taken at the party's two-day executive committee meet that concluded Sunday.

'We will ensure that our state level leaders participate in the demonstration. In the last 12 years, the prices of essential commodities have doubled. When the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government was ruling at the centre and in the state, the prices of essential commodities were under control,' Singh said.

He added: 'We will expose both the state and central government on price rise issue.

'The ministers who were not well-off when they became legislators turned billionaires in a short period of three years. Corruption is at its peak in the state. In the coming Lok Sabha elections, price rise and corruption in the state will be our core issues.'
