Tamil Nadu Additional Director General of Police S.K. Upadhyay was placed under suspension late Thursday night, the state government said here.
No reason was given.
The suspension comes within 48 hours of a one-man commission headed by Justic P. Shanmugham submitting its report on the telephone tapping scandal that linked the official with Chief Secretary L.K. Tripathi and former minister A.A. Poongothai.
Major newspapers in Chennai had published transcripts of the conversation and Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy had played the tape to the media in May. Poongothai resigned in May.
The phone tapping incident was over the police keeping an eye on the activities of opposition leader and AIADMK chief J. Jayalalitha.

There are several scandals involving TN govt. incdg.those of phone tapping. One, which is more recent, pertains to leaking of phone conversation in which an influential DMK member seeks a certain favour from govt.officials. Not only in TN,even elsewhere in India,it is a mockery of justice to punish men of integrity involved, and let off the perpetrator of irregularity or crime.
