MDMK MPs supporting UPA should be disqualified: Vaiko

From correspondents in Tamil Nadu, India, 11:01 PM IST

MDMK MPs violating a whip to oppose the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in Tuesday's confidence vote should be disqualified, party general secretary Vaiko said in a communique to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee Friday.

Gingee N. Ramachandran and L. Ganeshan - MPs belonging to the MDMK - had hinted that they might support the UPA during the vote of confidence July 22.

The MDMK has four members in the Lok Sabha and its MP C. Krishnan has been authorised to issue a whip indicating the party's vote, which should be against the UPA, Vaiko added in a statement.
