The Bihar government Thursday named D.N. Gautam as the new director general of state police, official sources said.

Gautam, a 1974-batch Indian Police Service officer, takes over from Shiv Chandra Jha, who retired July 31.

Earlier, Gautam was posted as an additional director general at the police headquarters.
