11 injured in south Kashmir firing

From correspondents in Jammu and Kashmir, India, 02:31 AM IST

Eleven protesters were wounded when a mob clashed with paramilitary troopers in Pulwama district of south Kashmir Wednesday evening, according to police.

An angry mob attacked the vehicle of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer at Dellu village, 38 km from here, the police said.

'CRPF troopers came under heavy stone pelting as they tried to chase away the protesters who continued fighting pitched battles with them,' a police officer said here.

The troopers later opened fire injuring 11 people, the officer said.

The condition of two of the injured was described as 'very critical' by attending doctors in Srinagar's SMHS Hospital where they were admitted for treatment.
