Congress seeks probe into infants' deaths at AIIMS

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 10:33 PM IST

The Congress Monday sought an investigation into the death of 49 infants during clinical trials at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here.

'It is a matter of great concern and the proper investigation by an independent team should be ordered soon into the matter,' Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said here.

'The code of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) restricting any trial on infants has been grossly violated. Pending the inquiry, all clinical trials on infants must be stopped,' he said.

On Sunday, IANS reported that 49 babies had died in the course of clinical trials at the premier medical institute over the last two and a half years.
