Do not send children for arrests, Jammu residents urged

From correspondents in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, 01:30 AM IST

As agitators prepared for the third day of their Court Arrest campaign on the Amarnath land issue Wednesday, the Jammu and Kashmir government urged the people here to keep their children away from the stir.

'The government has requested and advised the people in general and agitation leaders in particular not to send their children for the Court Arrest tomorrow as has been announced by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti,' an official spokesman said here Tuesday.

'It has clarified that arrest of children is prohibited under law and we appeal to the people in the interest and safety of their wards that they should not send their children for courting arrest,' he said.

Wednesday will be the third and final day of the 'jail bharo' action announced by the Samiti, a conglomerate of 30 Hindu groups agitating for return of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

The Samiti's male and female supporters courted arrest in their thousands on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
