The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday indicated that it supported the Trinamool Congress campaign against the Tata car project at Singur in West Bengal.

Asked if his party would back Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee, BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy did not give a direct reply but said: 'We support all agitations directly concerned with farmers and Amarnath pilgrims, anywhere in the country."

Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the Tata car plant is coming up on land taken from farmers.

The land row erupted two years ago after Tata Motors acquired 997.11 acres from the West Bengal administration to construct a factory at Singur to roll out their dream car Nano.

The project has been mired in controversy, with farmers and Mamata Banerjee alleging that the state government had forcibly acquired the land belonging to farmers.

On Friday, the Tata group warned that it will move the factory away from West Bengal if the protests against the plant continued.
