Youths in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla town burnt an effigy of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari Monday amid curfew restrictions imposed in the valley.
A small group of people came out in the old town area of Baramulla in north Kashmir in the afternoon shouting slogans against Zardari. They later burnt an effigy of the Pakistani president in the town square, officials said here.
Zardari, in an interview with Wall Street Journal (WSJ) columnist Bret Stephens, said the militants in Kashmir were 'terrorists', though previous regimes in Pakistan called them freedom fighters.
Curfew has been imposed throughout the valley since Sunday in a bid to stop a separatist march to the city centre Lal Chowk. Senior separatist leaders like Jameet-e-Ahle Hadis chief Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik have been arrested ahead of the march.
'Curfew restrictions are in force throughout the valley and there has been no report of any violence,' a police officer said here.
