GJM leader under scanner for carrying gun to public meeting

From correspondents in India, 08:02 PM IST

Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) secretary general Roshan Giri has come under the scanner of the Election Commission for allegedly carrying a revolver during a poll meeting of GJM-backed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate Jaswant Singh.

Siliguri sub-divisional officer Sarat Dwivedi said Giri is suspected to have carried the revolver in his pocket during a workers' meeting addressed by Singh, who is fighting for the Darjeeling seat, at Naxalbari block April 15.

The video footage of the meeting indicated he was carrying the revolver, Dwivedi said.

'He has been given a show cause notice. We are probing the matter,' he added.

Giri, however, said that it was a licensed revolver.
