Governor to take decision on SNC Lavalin graft case

From correspondents in Kerala, India, 12:00 AM IST

Kerala Governor R.S. Gavai Monday said an 'appropriate decision' will be taken under constitutional provisions about the prosecution of senior communist leader Pinarayi Vijayan, an accused in the multi-million rupee SNC Lavalin corruption case.

'The legal opinion from the advocate general, the minutes of the cabinet decision in the SNC Lavalin case and related documents and the reports and supporting documents received from the CBI are being examined in detail,' a statement from the governor's office said.

The statement was issued in the wake of conflicting reports appearing in the media about the prosecution of Vijayan, the state secretary of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

Vijayan has been accused of wrongly awarding contracts to Canadian company SNC Lavalin for renovating two hydro-power projects when he was power minister 12 years ago.
