CPI-M wins Alathur seat in Kerala

P.K. Biju, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate for Kerala's Alathur parliamentary constituency, received a wedding gift from the electorate Saturday when he won by a margin of over 20,000 votes.

The 35-year-old is getting married on May 30. He was contesting from the newly constituted Alathur constituency, about 400 km from here, against Congress rival N.K. Sudhir.

Biju, who is the national president of the Students Federation of India (SFI), belongs to a lower middle class family near Kottayam.
