DMK will be part of UPA government: Karunanidhi

From correspondents in Tamil Nadu, India, 10:02 PM IST

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi Monday officially announced his party's decision to be part of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre.

The DMK had earlier said it would give outside support to the UPA government after a row over ministerial berths for its MPs.

'The DMK will participate in the UPA government and (its) MPs will be travelling to Delhi to participate in the swearing in ceremony Tuesday,' Karunanidhi said in a statement.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke to him Monday and agreed on the list of the DMK MPs who will be sworn in.

The DMK leader thanked Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for resolving the issue over ministerial berth differences.

However, there was no official word about who from the DMK will be sworn in.
