The Himachal Pradesh government Wednesday revoked the suspension of senior bureaucrat Subhash Ahluwalia, an accused in a disproportionate assets case, an official here said.

'Subhash Ahluwalia was posted as divisional commissioner of Kangra this (Wednesday) evening after his suspension was revoked by the government,' secretary (personnel) Diljeeet Singh Dogra told IANS.

Ahluwalia, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was arrested by the vigilance bureau in October last year from Haryana's Panchkula town on charges of illegally amassing wealth.

He and his wife, Meera, have been under the vigilance scanner since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in December 2007.

Ahluwalia is accused of misusing state funds to amass unaccounted assets during his tenure as principal secretary to the chief minister in the previous Congress government.

The vigilance had pointed out that more than Rs.13.4 million was deposited in 16 bank accounts held by Ahluwalia, his wife and their two children, who are living in the US.

Since his arrest, Ahluwalia had been placed under suspension by the state government.
