Madhya Pradesh 'under' RSS, VHP, alleges Congress

From correspondents in Madhya Pradesh, India, 12:32 AM IST

All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh Thursday night alleged that the Madhya Pradesh administration is working 'under the pressure' of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

Digvijay Singh made the above allegation when a group of journalists met him in Bhopal after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party paid him a courtesy call in the evening to know about his well being.

Digvijay Singh reportedly advised Shivraj Singh Chouhan to appoint the administrative officials on the basis of their capability, a Congress source told IANS.

Digvijay, who has been chief minister of the state for 10 years - 1993 to 2003, was allegedly injured in a cane charge in a clash between Congress workers and the police in his home district in Rajgarh on Tuesday when leading a demonstration against the power crisis in the state. He has received two stitches in his head.

While Congress maintained that Singh was injured in a police lathicharge, the local administration denied the same.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Jagdish Deora also claimed that the former chief minister was hit by a brick hurled by the agitating Congressmen.
