Cash, motorbikes seized from Koda nominee

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 04:04 PM IST

Police in Jharkhand raided two places in West Singbhum district and recovered cash and motorbikes from a candidate of disgraced former chief minister Madhu Koda's party, police said Tuesday.

Koda, who won the Lok Sabha election from Singhbhum as an independent, has floated the Bharat Samanata Party (BSP) and fielded six candidates from as many assembly seats.

Police said they seized Rs.3.79 lakh in cash and 20 bikes. The money was found in around 25 envelopes in a tribal hostel at Chakradharpur, from where Avinash Purty is the Koda party nominee.

Police arrested one person with the cash. Another raid was conducted in a house elsewhere in the area.

'The cash and bikes were meant to be distributed among voters,' said a police official.

Koda is in jail since Nov 30 on charges of amassing assets beyond his known sources of income.
