"BITS, Pilani" NUMERO UNO among the Private Engineering Institutions in India

From correspondents in Rajasthan, India, 11:57 AM IST

The Institute secures third position among all the top engineering institutions of India in terms of placements (The maximum salary a BITSian is offered in a campus placement is 23.70 lakhs/year) while its overall rank is sixth among all the top engineering institutions.

BITS, Pilani does not find a place in the latest India Today rankings as the Institute has opted out of India Today’s survey since 2005 because of a pending court case between BITS and India Today. In 2004, when India Today published its rankings it did not collect the data from BITS, Pilani even though it mentioned it did so. BITS questioned the validity of the data because there were many factual errors in India Today’s description of BITS and the Institute filed a case against the magazine which is still pending.

The result of Outlook ranking echoes what our Hon’ble President of India and Hon’ble prime Minister of India had said during their visits to BITS, Pilani.

His Excellency, the President of India in his March 2007 visit to the Institute appreciated its linkages with premier educational institutions and industries that have developed the right ambience for the creation of Global Human Resource Cadre. He congratulated the faculty, students, staff of BITS, Pilani “who have contributed in promoting good educational standards in this institute, during the last four decades and transformed BITS, Pilani as a world class institution.”

“You have set a shining example of what the private sector can do in developing technical manpower for our country. Yours is an outstanding example of private initiative in the promotion of higher education” , said the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India complimenting BITS Pilani during the formal inauguration of its Goa Campus:

The Insititute, offering degree programmes at the first degree, higher degree and doctoral levels, is marching ahead with its relentless quest for educational excellence. In the words of Dr.K.K.Birla, the Chancellor, “Our efforts at BITS are to offer a judicious mix of courses which impart knowledge of science and technology, tempered and mellowed with a sense of moral values leading to the harmonious development of our students. Our prime consideration has been not only to prepare young men and women to act as leaders for the promotion of economic and industrial development of our nation but also to produce leaders who can play a creative role in guiding the destiny of the country.”
