Techtronics organized India Robot Olympiad 2008

Gurgaon based Techtronics (India) Limited, organized the national level robotics championship, 3rd Indian Robot Olympiad (IRO) 2008. IRO is India’s national qualifying event for the World Robot Olympiad. IRO 2008 witnessed more than 300 teams across India. The North India Chapter of IRO 2008 was organized on 6th September, 2008 at Amity University, Noida. Qualified teams from over 30 different schools from North and Central India were participated in the event in multiple categories like primary school (12-14 years), junior high (14-16 years), senior high (16-18 years) & open category and demonstrate the capabilities of their Robots, which was constructed using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education NXT.

In the north chapter there were four winning teams in each category. Billabong High School, Bhopal (Treksha Marwah, Saumya Nair, Bhavesh & Mokshda) won the primary level competition, Amity International, Noida (Ainesh Bakshi, Raghav Kochhar, Parin Aggarwal) won the junior level competition, Amity International, Noida (Kshitij Lauria, Savagya Vaish & Anchit Chandrashekhar) won the senior high category and open category level competition won by Amity, Vasundhra (Harsh Nagar, Puneet Kumar & Rachit Jain). All these students will be going to Yokohama, Japan for WRO 2008 which will be held on 1st November, 2008.

The South India chapter of IRO will be organized in Bangalore for the schools in the Southern & Western India at Indus International School on 28th September’08. The winning teams in various categories at both the events will represent India in the World Robot Olympiad 2008 (WRO). WRO is one of its kind international competition where young school students come together to compete their LEGO® MINDSTORMS® based robots designed, built and programmed to win pre-determined challenges from over 20 countries. IRO 2007 saw a thrilling display of various feats by robots created from LEGO MINDSTORMS Education kits and programmed by school children aged between 9 and 18 years who displayed exceptional acumen for robotics. Over 60 teams from around 20 schools from across India participated in the exciting event with their robots that were constructed based on LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT and had the power to see, touch and hear using the sophisticated sound, ultrasonic, touch and light sensors.
