Global Travel Major Sabre and BITS Pilani ink MoU

Right from 1979, BITS Pilani has set a benchmark in Industry University collaborations for addressing the Human Resource Development issue of various industries by launching an array of work integrated learning programmes to synergize the workplace requirements of the industry with the learning requirements of the university.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BITS and Sabre was signed on 19 September 2008 with the objective of fostering collaboration between the two institutions to promote academic and research interactions. The MoU was signed by Dr Sara Garrison Senior Vice President on behalf of Sabre and Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor on behalf of BITS Pilani.

BITS would offer educational avenues at various levels to meet the human resources development needs of Sabre through its Off-Campus Work Integrated Learning Programs. Sabre would endeavor to make available the necessary facilities for the implementation and continuation of the Practice School Program of BITS Pilani after discussions between the two organizations. Sabre will also participate in the placement activities of graduating students from Pilani as well as other campuses of BITS.

A Coordination Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellor, BITS as Chairman, and two nominees each from Sabre and BITS would plan, coordinate and monitor the academic and research programmes as well as all related operational matters within the framework of the academic regulations of BITS and the objectives outlined by Sabre.

During her visit to Pilani, Dr Sara Garrison also delivered the key note address for the inaugural session of the International Conference on Soft Skills Development Strategies: Corporate and Academia Perspective which was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr V N Rajasekhran Pillai Vice Chancellor IGNOU and Chairman Distance Education Council.

In her power packed speech titled Soft Skills of Business – The Missing Education Link, Dr Sara had the audience eating out of her hands by elaborating how to think, how to explain and how to execute in real life situations. Dr Sara also visited the Library of the Institute, the white marble temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the Birla Museum etc and commented that the infra structure of the Institute was one of the best among the university campuses she had visited.

While the world would remember 19 September as the day in 1893 when New Zealand became the first country in the world to give Women the Vote, for times to come BITS will remember it as the day Dr Sara Garrison from Sabre visited Pilani.
