Sical Logistics Ltd, India’s leading provider of integrated multi-modal logistics solutions for bulk and containerized cargo and offshore logistics, has won the award for the “Best Container Logistics Provider in the country” at the Express, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards (ELSC) held in Mumbai on September 19, ‘08. The award was received by Mr. Sudhir S. Rangnekar, MD and Group CEO Sical Logistics, on behalf of Sical Distriparks Ltd (SDL) from Mr Nigel Goode CEO, Logistics Writer Corporation and Chairman Express, Logistics and Supply Chain Conclave. SDL is a subsidiary of Sical offering world-class container logistics solutions and was represented by Mr LR Sridhar, Whole Time Director and CEO and Mr R Dhandapani, Chief Operating Officer, SDL.
The ELSC Awards were given out during the Express, Logistics and Supply Chain Conclave held in Mumbai on ‘Aligning strategies to cope with the intensity of Globalization’ on the 19th and 20th of September ’08. The ELSC conclave, now in its 2nd year, recognizes and showcases logistic companies and supply chain led businesses that have set new benchmarks in the delivery of logistics solutions. The winners of the Awards are selected by a panel of industry leaders, including past winners and the eminent members of the advisory council of ELSC.

Container logistics continues to be a key growth driver for the company and we have planned investments of INR 120 cr over the next two years, across key locations like JNPT, Tuticorin, Pipavav, NCR region and Bangalore, amongst others. We expect our new CFSs and ICDs to be operational by FY 2012, enabling us to consolidate our position as a leading container logistics player in India.”
SDL’s planned investments will facilitate the development of infrastructure and upgradation of its facilities at strategic locations across the country. The upgrade of Chennai CFS will enhance its handling capacity to 0.2 mn TEUs per annum while the expansion of the container yard facility at Vizag by 2000 sq mts will enable it to handle upto 3500 TEUs.
SDL currently owns and operates a 55 acre CFS at Ponneri, Chennai. It also operates CFSs at Vizag & Tuticorin under an Operations & Maintenance contract with the Central Warehousing Corporation. Its newly built empty container yard at Tuticorin can handle up to 0.3 mn TEUs by FY 2010. The company has a dominant market share in Chennai, Vizag and Tuticorin and has become the company of choice for many of the major liners in India. Combined with the parent company’s vast logistics network, it is ideally suited to deliver integrated multimodal logistics solutions across the country.
