From correspondents in Maharashtra, India, 06:05 PM IST

BBC World News today announces Travel India, a six-part series of journeys to India’s spiritual sites, places of scenic beauty, urban business centres and underdeveloped rural areas. Presented by India’s popular cricketer presenter, Harsha Bhogle, the new series showcases contemporary India.

Harsha starts his journey from the desolate Rann of Kutch in Gujarat and then makes his way to the Rajasthan city of Bikaner. Moving on, Harsha reaches the Golden Temple in Amritsar before travelling to Kashmir where he visits Wagah. Harsha then travels to the charismatic states of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh where he visits the holy city of Benares.

Harsha’s journey continues to Bihar and West Bengal to meet the tribes of Sunderbans. Then onto the new world IT hub of Hyderabad, before travelling to Kanyakumari. After his journey of the south, he heads to Nashik for wine tasting along with a crash course in wine making. Harsha then travels back to Mumbai to wrap up his adventure, a trip that takes a full circle back to the point of origin.

Paul Gibbs, the new BBC World News Head of Programmes, says: “The Travel India series uncovers the diverse and unexplored facets of India as it stands today. It’s an exciting discovery of the unexpected which gives a unique and intriguing insight into amazing India.”

Travel India airs on BBC World News every Saturday at 7 PM.
