Chettinad Health City (CHC), located in Kelambakkam near Chennai, is a new state – of – the – art hospital started by Sir Rajah Muthiah Chettiar Educational & Charitable Trust. The Reproductive Medicine division of Chettinad Health City delivered its first test tube baby on October 2nd 2008 using the advanced procedure called ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic sperm injection) in In Virto Fertilization (IVF).
This baby has been born to a Chennai based couple married since 11 years, through ICSI. This procedure is most commonly used to overcome male infertility problems, although it may also be used where eggs cannot easily be penetrated by sperm, and occasionally as a method of in vitro fertilization. ICSI is a highly effective therapy for male factor infertility.
On this occasion, Dr.Radha Pandiyan, Senior Consultant of Reproductive Medicine, & Dr.Sasikala Natrajamani, Chief Embryologist CHC said, “We are very happy to have helped deliver the first baby using the advanced procedure of ICSI treatment within a short span of period from its inception and giving hope to childless couples to have their own off-spring”.
Started in January 2008, the unit is equipped with advanced equipment including a non contact laser for fine manipulation of the embryos. The department offers both basic and advanced techniques for treatment of infertile couples with male factor, female factor or unexplained infertility. The facility offers treatment at a very subsidized cost and in a very patient friendly atmosphere. The department is managed by Dr..N.Pandiyan, Dr.Radha Pandiyan and Dr.Sasikala Natrajamani.
