Bangalore to host 3rd DiabetesIndia International Conference from 5-7th December 2008

DiabetesIndia, formed by a group of around 400 practicing diabetologists, medical specialists, family physicians, people with diabetes and all others interested in the cause of diabetes, today announced its 3rd DiabetesIndia International Conference which will be held from 5-7 December 2008 at The Grand Ashok, Bangalore. This conference will put forward a unique platform to discuss new innovations, technologies and treatments for diabetes. The main focus remains “Trends today & tomorrow’s wonder”. This groundbreaking conference happens once in three years and will have 1200 delegates from across the world.

The theme of the conference will be “Diabetes is just not glucose” and will have scientific sessions covering all aspects of Diabetes and confounding co-morbidities such as hypertension, dyslipidemias, obesity, atherosclerosis, etc., with emphasis on management strategies to future options without forgetting the basic science. This conference by the virtue of having Orations, Plenary sessions, Guest lecturers, work shops, debates and many more of the kind will evolve as a platform for knowledge hub to its audiences.

Speaking on this occasion Dr. S.M Sadikot, President, DiabetesIndia said “Diabetes has emerged as the major healthcare problem in India with around 40 million people currently suffering and it’s going to increase multifold in the next 15 years or so. At this juncture, the 3rd Diabetes India International Conference will evolve as a platform to untie many knots on diabetes that scientists are discovering currently & thus improve and better the lives of people with diabetes.”

Some of the esteemed international speakers who will be participating in the conference include Sir KGMM Albert, Paul Zimmet Marja-Ritta Taskinen, Pierre Lefebvre Ed. Horton, Jean-Claude Mbanya Clive Cockram, Jean-Charles Fruchart M. Hermans and Jamila Fruchart B. Staels.

The conference will also become a platform whereby DiabetesIndia will give away Jaipur Foot free of cost to the poor and needy diabetes patients. The limbs made with this technology are closest to a normal human limb. The Jaipur Foot has virtually got the same range of movements which a normal human foot has. It has dorsi-flexion, inversion, eversion, supination, pronation and axial rotation allowing a amputee not only to walk comfortably, but also squat (sitting on hunches), kneeling, crouching, sitting cross legged, walking also on undulated terrain, running, climbing a tree and driving an automobile. In other words, it is an all-functional, all-terrain limb.

The conference will have international audience including clinicians, researchers from the fields of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism, internal medicine, family medicine and general practice. There will also have participation from distinguished international faculties which is first of its kind in India.

Yet another key feature of the 3rd DiabetesIndia International Conference will be the walk with the unique theme “Walk to save children with Diabetes” which would start from Vidhan Soudha at 7:30 am on Sunday, 7th December 2008 and would culminate at The Lalit Ashok Hotel after covering 2km. The walk will have participation by 400 children, eminent sport stars from the state like athlete Ashwini Nachappa, ace badminton player Prakash Padukone, swimmer Nisha Millet and basket ball players like Nandini Basappa, Jayavanthi, Rajan, Dilip and Parthasarathy.
