Rang7.com, an Indian online travel agency, today announced the beta launch of myIndia – India travel community on its site. The community aims to become the single resource for anyone looking to explore the different facets of India, be it Destinations, Festivals, Monuments & Temples, or National Parks.
The community has been created to enable its users to search, research, plan and share their experiences in India with people like ourselves, in an interactive manner.
Key features of myIndia include Wiki-style Guides for destinations, festivals, monuments, national parks; Weekend Getaway planners that help users easily plan quick holidays; Blogs and Photo Gallery to share their experiences with other users. Rang7 plans to add more features (including reviews, videos, and alerts) to the myIndia section shortly.
Rang7 invested significant time and research to identify the need for a completely user generated platform like myIndia. "When we met travelers, their feedback was that while there are multiple sites that provide online reservations, no single site fulfills the need for comprehensive planning & research information on different cultural and travel aspects of India", said a Rang7 spokesperson. "In addition, users are increasingly being exposed to "paid/featured" reviews of destinations / hotels, which are completely different from what users actually experience".
To address the gap for trustworthy knowledge from "people like us", myIndia has invested in creating the platform and content for wiki -style Guides, which can be written or edited by users themselves. The site already offers in-depth guides for over 280+ Destinations, 70+ Festivals, 40+ Monuments & Temples and 25+ National Parks & Wildlife. Each of these guides has information on the history, things to do, food to eat, what to see, etc. Rang7 aims to continue to increase the available content based on the inputs and feedback of our membership base.
To help plan a vacation, myIndia has a user friendly Weekend Getaway planner, keeping in mind the increasing inclination of travelers to take multiple small vacations through the year. The tool enables users to identify weekend getaways from their hometown, and narrow it down based on distance, time of travel, vacation theme, and the best time to visit.
In addition, myIndia offers the functionality of Blogs and Photo gallery, to enable users to contribute and share their experiences. Newer features such as hotel reviews, videos will be added shortly.
"While we continue to work on improving the platform and increasing the depth & breadth of content, we have decided to open the beta platform to users, in order to receive feedback which will help us further improve the community", added the spokesperson. "We also continue to work on improving the Airline Tickets and Hotel booking engines, which should be ready for formal launch soon".
